PRESIDENT CLINTON SPEAKS TO THE ACUPCC ON CLIMATE CHANGE

President Bill Clinton gave the keynote speech at the Climate Leadership Summit of the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) meeting in Chicago Thursday, August 13, 2009. Launched in 2007, the ACUPCC has already grown to include 650 college and university presidents from all over the United States. Peter Wege and The Wege Foundation were instrumental in creating this national movement of college/university presidents.

The ACUPCC’s mission is to reduce global warning by reducing greenhouse emissions on their own campuses, research new climate-change solutions, and educate their students on the need for immediate action. Over 250 members attended the two-day conference August 13-14 hosted by The Wege Foundation. Jonathan Wege, a Wege Foundation trustee and Peter Wege’s son, welcomed guests at the ACPCC’s dinner meeting in the Palmer House.

President Clinton created the William J. Clinton Climate Initiative to seek out new solutions around the globe for reducing greenhouse gases. One of his central missions is working to stop deforestation around the world. This spring Clinton’s CCI partnered with the ACUPCC to produce together a toolkit outlining ways to supply clean, fuel-efficient energy for all college campuses.
